Round Table with Honorable Minister for International development and Minister for Women and Gender Equality.
On Thursday, 25th April, 2019. We were at a round table discussion hosted at Delmore “Buddy” Daye Learning Institute with the Honorable Minister for International development and Minister for Women and Gender Equality; Honorable Maryam Monsef.
We had an inspiring and engaging roundtable conversation regarding efforts and policies in place to help increase the number of women entrepreneurs in Canada.
According to Minister Monsef, the number of women entrepreneurs in Canada currently stands at 16%. She is working at double this figure in the next few years.
It is interesting to learn about the resources and opportunities available through her office, to encourage and empower more women in entrepreneurship.
Canada needs more women in skilled trades. The minister noted that there are lots of opportunities available in this area, and it is unfortunate that a lot hasn’t been done to get more women in skilled trades. She challenged everyone at the table to approach her office with ideas and suggestions we would like to see implemented, in order to avail more women opportunities to develop and grow their business.
This has been the mission of the Network for the Empowerment of Women since its inception. We will continue to collaborate with government agencies and private sectors to develop programs that encourages and enables women to improve their livelihood, succeed in their endeavors and build sustainable solutions to their overall future.
